Alabama 2X2 1921 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

Alabama 2X2 1921 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

You can spend the 20-30 thousand dollars on one of the 4 MS67 Alabama 2×2’s graded by PCGS or you can buy this example, the lone MS66+ for four or five times less. But you may ask is this less of a coin? No way, gorgeous, lustrous surfaces glisten beneath the design, a design by the way that is impeccable. A great value for an outstanding coin!

Bridgeport 1936 PCGS MS65 (CAC)

Bridgeport 1936 PCGS MS65 (CAC)

The obverse design displays a portrait of P.T. Barnum who was most widely known for his traveling circus, but the citizens of Bridgeport knew him as a man that made many contributions to their city as well as serving as Mayor in 1875. This example has a lovely golden-amber hue that is deeper near the rims. Great surfaces throughout for this often marked-up piece.

Cincinnati 1936-D NGC MS67 (CAC)

Cincinnati 1936-D NGC MS67 (CAC)

A very controversial addition to the Commemorative series; minted to commemorate the 50th anniversary for the city as a center of music and the art of music for the past 50 years. Unfortunately they depicted Stephen Foster on the obverse who had nothing to do with the movement while he lived and worked as a bookkeeper for a short time in Cincinnati, but wrote popular folk songs later when he lived in Pittsburg and New York. Even with all the political controversy the Cincinnati Musical Center Commemorative Coin Association got the measure passed and struck 15,016 coins divided equally among the three mints. This Denver issue offered here has lustrous surfaces that are peppered with a lovely golden hue.

Columbian 1892 PCGS PR66 Cameo (CAC)

Columbian 1892 PCGS PR66 Cameo (CAC)

From the melting of early Seated coins, three cent pieces, half dimes and trade dollars the Columbian Half Dollar was made. A whopping 950,000 coins were minted for 1892 with just a mere 100 brilliant proofs. Cardboard boxes were made to hold the first coins and not a single finger was to touch anything but the rims. Being the first U. S Commemorative, this was truly a historical event. The first coin off the press was sold to the Remington Typewriter company for $10,000, a tremendous amount considering the year. This piece offered here is one of the 100 proofs made and one of only 2 coins to given the prestigious PR66 Cameo designation. The weathered portrait of Columbus emerges from the toned fields, untoned and frosty. The colors on the background sparkle with tones of crimson, emerald and gold. The reverse with its intricate detail of the Columbus’ flagship, the Santa Maria, take on the same jewel tones and deep reflective surfaces.

Columbian 1893 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

Columbian 1893 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

A stunning example with vibrant aqua-marine, brilliant amber and honey gold that kiss the peripheries leaving the centers bright and untoned. The coins original designer was to be by U.S.J. Dunbar. His design was based on a portrait painted by Lorenzo Lotto of Columbus in 1512. The U.S. Mint’s Chief Engraver at the time, Charles E. Barber, ignored Dunbar’s design, and instead took on the project, basing his depiction of Columbus from a bust made by artist Olin Levi Warner. With too much opposition regarding the reverse design from expositions officials, Barber delegated the reverse design to assistant director George T. Morgan.

An attractive example of this classic commemorative! Nice original surfaces that display an array of gold, amber and blue tones that touch the rims. The Huguenot remains controversial to this day due to its questionable constitutionality, separating church and state.

Isabella 1893 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

Isabella 1893 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

A gorgeous example of the only 25c commemorative coin! Plus coins offer such value in today’s market. The last MS66 Isabella sold in auction for $7475.00, while a MS67 just sold for a whopping $9775.00, this MS66 + seems like a “no brainer”. A super, well preserved example, with golden-mahogany that kisses the peripheries and leaves the center, bright and lively. Distributed at the Chicago Columbian Exposition but was completely overshadowed by the Columbian Half Dollar that was also being distributed. An original order for 40,000 coins were to be minted, but because of lack of demand, and interest, 15,809 coins were returned to the mint for melting.

Undoubtedly struck from the same dies used to produce the 50 presentation pieces minted for dignitaries and coin club members responsible for this issue. Exhibiting all the characteristics of said pieces, with the exception of the die line protruding diagonally from the calves head.
