A delightful Commemorative depicting Sir Walter Raleigh on the obverse. According to legend Raleigh spread his cloak on a puddle to prevent Queen Elizabeth from being splashed by a passing coach. Stunning tab toning is enlivened by super autumnal hues on the obverse, while the reverse has the same colors but blankets the entire side. A beautiful example!

Superb surfaces are noticeable on both sides of this great coin. A beautiful example of this half dollar depicting Sir Walter Raleigh, designed by William Marks Simpson. The Stone Mountain Commemorative was struck in 1925 to mark the 101st anniversary of General Stonewall Jackson’s birth. The obverse features General Robert E Lee and General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson mounted. Designed by Gutzon Borglum, who also designed and sculpted Mount Rushmore. The obverse and reverse shows light centers with wonderful jewel tones that swirl near the rims.
