1938 Washington Quarter NGC PR68*

1938 Washington Quarter NGC PR68*

In 1931 Laura Gardin Fraser won the competition for the new Quarter Design, but was refused twice by Trasury Secretary Andrew Mellon. In 1932 Odgen Mills succeeded Mellon and approved a design by John Flannagan, the design that is still used today. This 1938 Washington Quarter offered here is striking. Bluish tones glow near the peripheries, leaving the centers untoned and perfect. Only 8045 proof coins were minted but not a single coin has been graded higher than this PR68. The star designation attests to its wonderful eye-appeal.
