Isabella 1893 PCGS MS66

Isabella 1893 PCGS MS66

This stunning, well preserved example, displays teal blue encompassing the rims with light rose centers. Distributed at the Chicago Columbian Exposition but was completely overshadowed by the Columbian Half Dollar that was also being distributed. An original order for 40,000 coins were to be minted, but because of lack of demand, and interest, 15,809 coins were returned to the mint for melting.

Isabella Quarter 1893 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

Isabella Quarter 1893 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)

The second coin of the Classic Commemorative series. The Isabella Quarter was designed by Charles Barber and is the only quarter in the series. The Isabella Quarter was minted as a souvenir coin to give special recognition to women in government. Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Span furnished the financing for Columbus’ voyage. This example is toned in a very light golden hue that warms and deepens near the rims. Absolutely lovely!

1923-S Monroe Doctrine 50c. PCGS MS 65.

1923-S Monroe Doctrine 50c. PCGS MS 65.

Issued before the “commemorative craze” of the mid 1930s, this issue suffered an unusual fate. Actually released to promote the film industry in southern California, it was minted in huge quantity by commem standards, yet it was a flop. The vast majority were either sold to non coin collectors, or put into circulation by the banks that had ordered them expecting the large demand that never materialized.
