1839 Liberty Half Eagle PCGS MS63 (CAC)

First year of issue for Christian Gobrehts Coronet Liberty Head design which ran from 1839- 1908, and included Quarter Eagles, Half Eagles and Eagles. The 1839 shows the first head design which was changed in 1840 to a larger diameter and dates and letters also enlarged. All of the dies had to be changed by hand. This is a great date with a mintage of 188,143 coins total but most of these went out into circulation, making it very tough to find in Mint State condition. This, at the MS63 level, is one of 6 coins to receive this grade with only 1 finer. A very special coin with bright yellow-gold surfaces and superior quality through-out!
