1840 (O) Seated Liberty Half Dollar Medium Letters NGC G6 (CAC)

Here is the Branch Mint coin that does not have a mintmark! The dies were first shipped to New Orleans in 1838 and finally used in 1840. Coins manufactured at the New Orleans Mint would have a mintmark located below the eagle, but on these dies, it was missing. The obverse was later paired with an updated reverse showing a small “O”. There were 112,000 of these “non O” coins produced, but at this time and this is between both services, there are only 259 known. Here is a great little piece of history!
