1861-O Seated Liberty Half Dollar Speared Olive Bud WB104 PCGS XF45 (CAC)

In 1860 six dies were shipped to the New Orleans mint for coins to be minted for the next year. With the outbreak of the Civil War, no further die shipments would be sent, therefore these were the only dies used to produce 2,532,633 coins. Out of these came 14 different die marriages and 4 major varieties, this being the Speared Olive Bud variety that can be seen on the reverse. If you look right next to the small bud closest to the Eagles leg feathers you will see 2 die lines that run between the bud and the feathers. One of the 4 recognized dies that were struck by the confederacy, what a great little piece of history!
