1896-S Barber Dime PCGS MS66 (CAC)

March 26, 2012 Sales Archive, Sold - Dimes

From an original mintage of 575,056 pieces, one would expect this date to be a bit more available, but to date, PCGS has only graded 73 coins total in Uncirculated condition and NGC just 62. With regrades and crossovers, this number is much smaller. Branch Mint dimes from the 1890s are historically conditionally challenged and with the scarcity of its Quarter counterpart, the 1896-S is a popular and tough issue. This MS66 is one of only 4 coins to receive this grade with a lone coin receiving the 66+ grade. In addition to this date being popular because of rarity, it stands out with glowing rose gold hues that are highlighted by bluish-green rims. A truly spectacular example!
