Cincinnati 1936-D PCGS MS66+ (CAC) Guttag Family

A very controversial addition to the Commemorative series; minted to commemorate the 50th anniversary for the city as a center of music and the art of music for the past 50 years. Unfortunately they depicted Stephen Foster on the obverse had nothing to do with the movement while he lived and worked as a bookkeeper for a short time in Cincinnati, but wrote popular folk songs later when he lived in Pittsburg and New York. Even with all the political controversy the Cincinnati Musical Center Commemorative Coin Association got the measure passed and struck 15,016 coins divided equally among the three mints. This Denver issue offered here has lustrous surfaces that are display hues of golden color highlighted by wonderful powder blue. From the Guttag Family Collection.
