Five Hundred Thousand Dollar Currency Strap For $5,000 Gold Certificates

The five-thousand dollar denomination was never a commonly printed bill within the United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing. In fact, the denomination as a gold certificate was only printed over the course of five series of notes, which include the dates of 1865, 1870, 1882 and 1888 for large size notes and 1928 for small size notes. This strap uses a typeface consistent with those used in the latter portion of the 1800s and would have been wrapped around one hundred of these gold certificates. The strap itself is decorated with a pair of double boxes containing a repeating petal-type motif.
