United States Mint at Carson City Receipt for Silver Bullion 1874

A receipt for silver bullion deposited at the US Mint at Carson City dated May 21, 1874 and deposited by Frank D. Hetrick (handwritten as “F.D. Hetrick”). Hetrick was Superintendent of the Carson City Mint from May 1873 through August 1875. The deposit is for 11,084.5 gross ounces silver and the receipt is signed by George W. Bryant, melter and refiner. The reverse shows a veritable laundry list of materials required to run a smelting operation and is written in cursive pencil. There is a small hole in the upper left portion of the obverse within the ornate border scrollwork.
